Celebrating Alta West: AIA Georgia 2005 Residential Design Awards and an Exhibit at MODA Alta West is a new mixed-use development, located on Atlanta's west side. Rising amid warehouses and other industrial sites, the building's design draws inspiration from the character of the surrounding neighborhood. Five buildings surround a central green space. The lower levels of each building provide both retail and live/work space, while the upper levels are residential. Modular concrete tunnel form systems provide the structure and finish of the units. The design also shows its industrial roots through the choice of building materials: stucco, steel, concrete and glass. Alta West was awarded an AIA Georgia 2005 Residential Design Award in March. Surber Barber Choate & Hertlein Architects, PC will join our fellow award recipients as part of an exhibit at MODA (www.museumofdesign.org) in July. The exhibit will explore the “method behind the madness” of these award-winning projects, and will run from July 28 until August 20. |

CAD Standards and Pizza: A series of lunch education sessions to broaden the mind and sate the appetite May marks the beginning of a series of "munch and learn" classes that will serve to bring everyone up to speed on the latest software updates and innovations. Run in a similar fashion to seminars, instruction includes on-screen demonstrations and is followed by a Q&A period. In addition to expanding their technology skills, these sessions will help ensure consistency and streamline production for our architects and interns. Of course, the pizza ensures enthusiastic participation. |
