Dennis Hertlein, AIA

Mr. Dennis Hertlein joined the firm over 20 years ago and has been involved in the majority of our adaptive reuse and infill projects. He has led projects with uses ranging from institutional/education to office, retail and multi-family/mixed-use. Prior to 1987, Mr. Hertlein worked in New York City and San Francisco where he developed an appreciation for the challenges and opportunities that are associated with urban projects and sites.

With his diverse background, Dennis brings a focus and passion to the firm's urban expertise. He believes that every project should begin by addressing both the details of the site and the context of the immediate surroundings. In addition, the programming and financial goals of each project need to be clarified at the beginning of the project in order to maximize the efficiencies of the design. This comprehensive approach brings true value to each project and results in unique solutions that are specific to each opportunity.

Mr. Hertlein graduated with honors from Syracuse University in 1982, and has been registered as an architect since 1987. He has been a Principal of Surber Barber Choate & Hertlein Architects, Inc. for over twelve years. Because of his commitment to helping further Atlanta's maturation into a better urban environment, Dennis is also a member of the Urban Land Institute and the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.
