Northwood Club's original clubhouse was built in the 1960's, with various additions and renovations built in the 1980's. Surber Barber Choate & Hertlein was hired to help develop a master plan to renovate and expand the existing building and add a fitness facility. The firm conducted a detailed programming exercise to assess the specific needs of the club.

The solution was twofold: Limitations of the existing structure made renovation and expansion much less desirable than a new building. That new building would serve to re-establish the character of the club.

The clubhouse would have a central kitchen to serve all member dining needs. There would also be covered outdoor seating for the various dining options. The men's grill and ladies lounges would take advantage of the views of the property. There would also be a dedicated casual bar and dining room. The ballroom/function traffic would be directed to the upper level where a terrace would offer excellent views. The back of house functions would also be greatly improved.

The golf shop would be renovated to become a fitness center, which would also serve the golf functions and pool functions. A separate tennis center would be built.
