This clubhouse was originally designed for a planned community and was eventually turned over to the members. Surber Barber Choate & Hertlein was hired to explore new programming that would address the new concerns and priorities of the new owners and managers. This process uncovered the need for the expansion of the facilities. In addition, issues such as HVAC problems and mold growth in the original building would have to be solved.
Keeping the basement and service level as well as the super structure of the main level intact, the rest of the building was demolished. The firm designed expansions which provided additional member dining spaces, an improved women's lounge and facilities, and expanded fitness facilities. The new systems are energy efficient, using geothermal heating and cooling. A new expanded kitchen adequately serves both the member dining and function rooms.
One of the goals was to reflect the exterior character of the original building, so the firm studied this carefully and used similar exterior materials on the new building.
