In 2005, flooding from hurricane Katrina damaged the lower floor of the Metairie Country Club's clubhouse and damaged another building to a lesser degree. The club also had many programming changes and improvements that they wanted to make.
Surber Barber Choate & Hertlein was hired to help determine the best course of action, beginning with an extensive programming study. A new building was considered but it was determined that the historic core of the original building could be salvaged. In addition, the existing tennis building would be renovated and expanded to serve the pool functions and to serve food. This building would have a large covered loggia built on the second floor to provide covered seating with great views.
The clubhouse would now have expanded member dining, casual dining, a men's grill, ladies facilities, and a new kitchen. There would also be a ballroom addition on the second floor. Despite the extensive renovation, restoration and expansion, the clubhouse actually had a net reduction in square footage due to increased efficiency.
The project is currently under construction and expected to be completed in November of this year.
