The original headquarters of McKenney's Inc. was a pre-cast, single story concrete box dating from the 1970s. Over time, the facility had evolved into an unorganized maze with long corridors, dropped ceilings and no natural light. In 1995, Surber Barber Choate & Hertlein completed an overhaul of the facility, which resulted in a vibrant modern space with a more open layout.

Building on the success of the first phase and accommodating their growing business, Surber Barber Choate & Hertlein was rehired to design a new two-story office building located next to the original building. This was completed in 2002.

Currently, the firm is working on the third phase of expansion, which includes the development of a brownfield site acquired by McKenney's adjacent to their original site. Two buildings on this site are being, additional parking is being added, and several employee amenities are being developed. These amenities include a walking trail, running track, and basketball and tennis courts.

On the original site, an additional story is being added to the 2001 addition. A new three-story addition is also being built. The sheet metal shop is being expanded and a new entry is being added to one of the older parts of the building to connect to the new site.
