Mead Site Master Plan

Atlanta, Georgia

The former Mead Paper processing plant in Atlanta's historic Inman Park neighborhood is being transformed into a 21 acre mixed-use community with almost 600 residential units. Enjoying overwhelming support from the Inman Park Neighborhood Association, Surber Barber Choate & Hertlein Architects created a master plan that met the goals of both the developer and community, successfully rezoning the property from industrial to a mixed-use district.

New streets with wide sidewalks, trees and on-street parking divide the site into more manageable parcels, as well as provide better connectivity through the neighborhood. A small common green in the center of the site and a pond on the low-lying eastern edge will be open to the community.

When complete, the site will include 17 infill single-family houses facing Lake Avenue, 41 townhouses, 360 apartments, 170 condominiums, 30,000 square feet of office space (in the former Mead office building) and 30,000 square feet of retail including two restaurants. Parking garages for the larger buildings are hidden from view and the houses and townhouses share a common alley for off-street parking. Designated a Development of Regional Impact by the Atlanta Regional Commission, the Mead site redevelopment was approved in the Spring of 2002.
