This new primary residence for a family of four was recently featured in Architectural Digest. It sits on an eight acre wooded site on Elder Mountain overlooking the Tennessee River Valley. The 18,000 square foot, single story home features an elliptical library with a domed ceiling, a circular guest suite with interior and exterior stone walls and an indoor swimming pool.
The owners were looking to build a home that was gracious, inviting and built with "mountain-harmonious materials." The exterior materials include stacked Tennessee field stone, Indiana limestone, redwood and stucco walls, steel windows and copper fascia. The minimal, subdued tones were also employed inside the home. Six evenly spaced columns made of Tennessee field stone, with bands of limestone, stand at the entrance of the living and dining areas. The interior is accented with stained cherry paneling and slate flooring from India.
The expansive home is wrapped around the brow of the cliff, following the contour of the land. Windows are plentiful throughout to take advantage of the breathtaking views of the gorge below.
